“Sustainability” is widely known as a key word for our future not only in the maritime industry but also across businesses and nations today. In addition to the once-posited concepts of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), ESG Investment (Sustainable Investment) and SDGs (UN’s Sustainable Development Goals) have drawn keen attention and we all have high expectations for companies to play an important role in building a sustainable society.
We, Abo Shoten, are not only engaged in the local community but are also striving to build a sustainable society in our home town Onomichi, where "Leaving No One Behind" can be realized through our achievements of the SDGs.

Our "Sustainable Development Goals"
We will create an opportunity such as internal workshops to exchange opinions on our new project, “SDGs Activities”, by aiming to cover as many of the 17 goals and 169 targets of SDGs as possible in our engagements. We will also evaluate our achievements against the concepts of SDGs, and will post all our SDGs activities to keep you updated.
ABO SHOTEN, Ltd. supports the Sustainable Development Goals
1Following ratification of the Poseidon Principles by our main banks, we provide CO2 emission data and liaise with the concerned parties for green action and environmental protection measures.
2We have taken action in compliance with regulations for ballast water management and NOx (nitrogen oxide) & SOx (sulphur oxide) emissions. Furthermore, we are always on the lookout for new information and next generation technology such as renewable energy solutions.
1We create a comfortable workplace for our employees with different life-styles and values; e.g., paid leave system for various purposes, flexi-time system, remote work system, etc.
2We do not tolerate gender discrimination and foster a work environment where everybody can work to their full potential regardless of their gender.
3We invest in HR development to assist our employees with their career development. Most of all, we are focusing on globalizing our workforce to perform their daily operations in English efficiently.
4We support local artists based in the Onomichi and Seto inland sea area by presenting their artwork for prizes in our Neptune Golf Tournament.
5We contribute to funding and sponsorship for local festivals in Onomichi to revitalize our community.

2We will put our utmost effort into preventing major incidents in our ship operations, and will establish and enhance our risk management system in case of an accident in order to deal with it appropriately.
3We will comply with the law and relevant treaties to be proud of our corporate promotion not only to our customers but also to the world.
